James J. Houlihan’s popular exhibition on boxing in Ireland and Irish America continues its international journey and opens on January 31st at the McClelland Irish Library at The Irish Cultural Center in Phoenix, Arizona with a reception honoring local World Heavyweight Champ, Muhammad Ali.

Featuring more than 1,000 boxing items, such treasures as John L. Sullivan’s fur coat, Ali’s signed glove and robes, boxing bags, photos and film footage of prize fighters from 1820 to today. Liam Neeson, Honorary Chair and long-time supporter of the Irish Arts Center, has also loaned personal items from his amateur boxing career to the exhibit including the gloves given to him by Olympic boxer Freddie Gilroy.
