Sean-Nós Dancing
Workshop
with Shannon Dunne and
Mary Beth Taylor
Sunday, September 18
10 am - 1:30 pm
Sean-Nós (“old style”) dancing is a traditional
form of Irish solo dancing which works closely with the rhythms of Irish music.
Similar to such American styles as tap and clogging, it has been argued that sean-nós is
the oldest form of Irish dance.
Students will learn a full set of steps that can be danced to traditional
Irish music. Additionally, learners will experiment with steps and rhythms of
their own creation—this emphasis on creativity and spontaneity is what
makes sean-nós dancing truly unique! For all skill levels.
In lieu of set dancing shoes, please wear footwear with a hard sole and a
low heel.
Fee: $40 general / $35 members, seniors, students
If you need assistance placing your order, call 866-811-4111.
“An extraordinarily moving memoir in motion... It will delight and
provoke in equal measure.” —THE IRISH INDEPENDENT
“For Colin Dunne—one-time Riverdance performer— tradition is something to be carefully maintained… But that doesn’t mean he can’t deconstruct step dancing
and put it together again in his own inimitable fashion.” —THE IRISH TIMES

Out of Time
New York Premiere
Created and Performed by COLIN DUNNE
October 19 - October 22 | 8 pm
Baryshnikov Arts Center Jerome Robbins Theater 450 W. 37th Street
Laurence Olivier Award 2010 Nominee Outstanding Achievement in Dance
Internationally-acclaimed Irish step dancer Colin Dunne brings movement,
sound and image together to create a provocative dialogue between past and present.
Intimate and playful, Out of Time is both an unsentimental homage
to Irish step dance, and a bold investigation of Dunne’s personal and artistic
relationship with a tradition that has shaped his life.
Colin Dunne (Wednesday and Thursday, through Oct. 22) Mr. Dunne
had international fame as an Irish step dancer and the lead in “Riverdance” during
the late 1990s. Since then he has reinvented himself as a choreographer working
in a contemporary setting, and his new “Out of Time” pays homage
to his dance past while attempting to move into new artistic terrain. Can a traditional
form find a contemporary context? It’s a question that bedevils all dance
governed by specific, historically shaped techniques (ballet and flamenco among
them). Perhaps Mr. Dunne will make it happen. At 8 p.m., Baryshnikov Arts Center,
450 West 37th Street, Manhattan, (866) 811-4111,
