From Cork via Harlem comes Maeve Higgins, star of page and stage, with an all-new variety show featuring an eclectic and invigorating clutch of guests. Only the wisest voices, freshest thinkers, funniest moments, and best stories will make it past her gates into One Night in Heaven.

Bursting onto the New York comedy scene this year with shows across the city and appearances on Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer and National Geographic’s Startalk, Higgins is the most exciting comedy voice to emerge from Ireland in a generation. She has just been named a 2015 Woman of Influence by The Irish Voice newspaper for her comedy work as well as her writing—Higgins is author of the critically acclaimed essay collection We Have a Good Time, Don’t We?

One Night in Heaven features a different theme each month—October sees us savoring comedy and lore around food, November pinches our cheeks as we pinch our pennies and get down to real-talk about money, and December sees love rule the day…and night. Special guests will be announced.

Todd Barry is New York City-based stand-up comedian, actor, and voice actor, widely recognized for his roles as the bongo-playing “Third Conchord” on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and Mickey Rourke’s deli boss in 2009 Oscar-winner The Wrestler. Barry is renowned throughout the entertainment industry for his nuanced, measured, and thoroughly original approach to stand-up.

Priscilla Ferguson is Professor of Sociology at Columbia University and the author most recently of Word of Mouth: What we talk about when we talk about food (2014).

Jean Grae is a critically acclaimed lyricist, producer, writer, director, cinematographer, and all around consummate entertainer who has been challenging the boundaries of artistry since her debut in 1996. Whether creating music with imaginative narratives that immerse the listener in a dark world of Grae’s design, or spilling her most personal stories of love and life experiences, she always delivers an honest performance that strikes the most vulnerable parts of her audience and keeps them wondering, “what will she do next?” And there’s even more to Jean Grae than all that: she has a passion for food.

Amelia Lester is the executive editor of The New Yorker’s website, and was previously the magazine’s managing editor.
